Rajesh becomes highest-paid paddler in TT Super League
CHENNAI: Rajesh, who was bought for Rs 60,000 by Hindustan Kingpong, emerged the highest-paid player for the second edition of Table Tennis Super League which will take place at the VR Chennai Mall in Anna Nagar from February 22-24. V Nitin Thiruvengadam, who was bought by LA Black Thunder for Rs 58,000, was second highest-paid among men. Time Link Chargers paid Rs 33,000 for T Reeth Rishya, who emerged as the top buy among women.
Among the junior girls, Sharmitha and Kowshika Venkatesan were the most in demand, going for Rs 31,000 and Rs 25,500 respectively. Balamurugan went for Rs 29,000 in the cadet category. A total of 60 players, divided into six age group categories (men, women, junior boys, junior girls, cadet boys and veterans) went under the hammer on Tuesday.
Though stars like A Sharath Kamal and G Sathiyan will not be taking part in the league due to their international commitments, some of the prominent paddlers from the state will be seen in action during the three-day event. The eight teams will be divided into two groups of four each. Each team will play each other in their respective group once and the top two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinals.
Each team tie will include nine matches and all the nine matches have to be played in the group stage as each match won has points. The men player will play three matches (1 singles & 2 doubles), women will play two matches (1 Singles & 1 doubles), junior boys two matches (1 singles & 1 doubles), junior girls' two matches (1 singles & 1 doubles), cadet boys' one match (1 singles) and veterans' two matches (1 singles & 1 doubles).
